WordPress and Access Control??

For those that read this site, I’m looking for some help on setting things up for a local wordpress install I’m working on. I would like to set my local wordpress install so that not all posts are available for all people.
So if I create a group called Asset Team, then I only people who are a part of the Asset Team would be able to view the post/entry. If I set it to everyone, then everyone would be able to view the bpost. How would I go about setting that up?

Democratic Presidential hopefulls and the Fox News debate

Or lack of debate… Why are all the Democrats avoiding the Fox News debate like the plague? Because the MoveOn.org crowd feels that Fox News is just a mouthpiece of the Karl Rove administration or whatever crazy view they currently have.
Anyways, there is a great article in the New York Times linked from the Drudge Reportin regards to the debate and some of the back story behind it. One thing I didn’t, maybe because I wasn’t paying much attention to it, but the Congressional Black Congress is sponsering the debate. In fact, according to the article, Fox and the parent corp (Newscorp) is giving money to the black caucus and helping to get more African Americans involved in the television rating system. However that doesn’t matter to people like Mrs. Clinton, or Mr. Obama. I wonder if Newscorp has given money to Obama? Now that would be interseting.

Inflation in Zimbabwe Hits 3,714 Percent

According to this article, inflation in Zimbabwe has reached 3,714 percent despite everything the “president” Robert Mugabe’s attempts to control the economy. Remember this is the country that is now head of economical reform in the U.N.
There are some amazing quotes in this article. The Reserve Bank, according to the article knocked off the last 3 digits in order to control this out of control inflation, 100,000 Zimbabwean dollars becoming 100 Zimbabwean dollars, in a failed attempt to stabilize the economy. (I’m so glad this country is helping out with the UN)
The next step the government will take is to impose a limit on wage and price controls, punishable by large fines and jail time, but already the limits and price controls that are currently in place are not working:

In recent years, the government has tried to freeze prices for corn meal, bread, cooking oil, meat, school fees and transport costs with little success. Socialist-style controls have driven a thriving black market in scarce commodities.
Sugar, unavailable in regular stores for weeks, fetches at least 10 times the government’s designated price at a dirty market in Harare’s impoverished western township of Mbare.

This country has serious issues and serious problems, and most of them come down to one man trying to implement socialist controls and failing. It’s time to get rid of Robert Mugabe.

Started writing documentation for Keep — Backup utility for KDE

I have spent lots of time working on Kubuntu documentation and have decided to try and work upstream with KDE documentation. One of the ways I thought would be to work on documentation for Adept, the package manager Kubuntu uses as its default program. However with all the changes that got made for 7.04, my documentation fell way, way behind. The problem with Adept is that Kubuntu’s version and Debian’s version are so far split apart they are almost separate documents.

So I started to tackle another project that is lacking documentation and that is Keep. Bug #122484 in KDE’s bug tracking database, mentions that Keep is lacking a handbook. So I have spoken with the maintainer of the package and started to work on the documentation. I am also using this as time to learn how to use bazaar and store the branch in launchpad. So if anyone is interested, or cares or wants to help contribute, the link to my Keep documentation branch is: https://code.launchpad.net/~jjesse/keep/keep-doc1

Robert Mugabe — Failed President of Zimbabwe — Part I

In an earlier post I wrote about the shame that is the UN and electing Zimbabwe to lead the group on economic reform.
Let’s take a look at how great the country of Zimbabwe has been since Robert Mugabe has been. Mugabe was elected Prime Minister in 1980 and then in 1987 he changed the constitution to make him President. His party has won every election, since 1980 mostly due to fraud, voter intimidation and rigging the election.
The country of Zimbabwe has one of the lowest literacy rates in Africa.
Other great gems taken from the Wikipedia article on Robert Mugabe and also the article on Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe dollar suffers from the highest Inflation rate of any currency in the world. Zimbabwe official statistics reveal that the annualized inflation rate for September 2006 was 1000%. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its World Economic Outlook database, reports that inflation was 1216% for 2006, and forecasts an inflation rate of 4279% for 2007

Inflation rose from an annual rate of 32% in 1998 to a high of 2,200.2% [3] in March 2007, a state of hyperinflation. The exchange rate fell from 24 Zimbabwean dollars per US dollar to 250(000) Zimbabwean dollars per US dollar (official rate) and 25,000(000) Zimbabwean dollars per US dollar (parallel rate), in the same period.

Is this really the country we want in charge of the UN economical growth group?

More information as I dig more information up.

Sharepoint versus Worpdress??

Ok I’m looking for a documentation/team management system that I can setup and run. I’ve used Sharepoint and obviously this blog is hosted on WordPress. I have even installed a local WordPress server and have successfully enabled a blog.
Let me explain the situation here: At work right now we run dotProject to manage some of the documents the consultants use. But not many people use and it is very hard to search and find files, including the files you have posted yourself. Also since we are not using the project management functions the site is a little more then a file repository that no one uses.
I’ve been tasked to find some form of a solution to this. The first thing I thought had was to use Sharepoint as I have used it for team sites and documentation management. 99% of the engineers here use Microsoft Office, so I thought it would be a great fit. However there are some issues security wise, including the biggest being required VPN access to really get the best out of Sharepoint which at most client sites is blocked.
So I thought what about setting up a WordPress site, but I don’t know enough about WordPress to see if it will work the way I want it to. I would like to be able to create seperate “sites” for different projects or teams and upload documents, have discussion, and great search. Also different levels of access control would be great, so if I didn’t have the correct access, I wouldn’t even see the post.

Am I looking for too much out of wordpress and should be looking for something else, some other form of software???

Confidence

My wife and I are recently back from our first European vacation. We spent 10- days in Italy, visiting Rome, Perugia and Sienna. We enjoyed Sienna the most. Rome was exactly crazy and hectic and unbelievable.
I’m not a big big city person, but it seems that after walking around Rome with my wife and I, I seem to have more confidence in visiting new places. An example of this…. I’m currently in Chicago and just spent some time walking around the city by myself. I don’t think I would have done this before visiting Rome. I think the time spent dodging trafffic and trying to navigate in a different language has helped a lot. Hopefully I can continue to build this confidence as I travel as a full time consultant.

Is the U.N. Serious?

Seriously, the UN is putting Zimbabwe in charge of the U.N. body that promotes ecconmoic progress? Can you believe this? Are we supposed to respect the decisions this governing body makes when a country with one of the worst performing world economies is in charge of promoting economic growth?
From the Powerline blog, they have great thoughts on this:

Zimbabwe, once a relatively prosperous land, now is one of the world’s worst performing economies. According to the Washington Times (see link above), it has the world’s highest inflation rate, unemployment of something like 80 percent, and severe food shortages. Just this week, the government announced daily power cuts of up to 20 hours for households throughout the country. And, of course, Zimbabwe possesses an atrocious human rights record.

Oh yeah and further information in regards to the quality of the UN:

UPDATE: In 2003, the United Nations elected Libya as the chairman of its Commission on Human Rights. In January of that same year, it selected Iran and pre-invasion Iraq to co-chair the U.N. Disarmament Conference.

Come on people why can’t we vote out the UN of America or better yet, just stop giving them money so they won’t have any power to do anything.
