Obama administration tells CEO of GM to resign

Accordng to an article on Politico.com, President Obama’s pan to help bailout the auto companies includes asking the current CEO of GM to resign.  Why isn’t anyone else freaking out with this?  After reading the article, I can’t believe we have reacheda part where the governent can now say who is allowed to be a CEO of a company and who can’t be.  What else is the government going to tell us we can or can’t do?  Will we be forced to buy certain items?

Or am I totally misunderstanding this?  Can someone exlplain this to me?

Successful upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty

A big thank you to all the developers for the job they do.  Last night for some sick and twisted reason I did the upgrade from Kubuntu 8.10 64-bit to Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit.  It was painless, from the command line run upgrade-manager -d to upgrade from the production version to the developmental version.  With the download started I went to bed hoping things would be alright when I woke up.  (After all this is my work laptop and I didn’t want to spend the whole weekend getting things fixed and back working for Monday)

One of the really nice parts in Jaunty is the new Network Manager Applet.  I find it easier and more intiuitive to use.  Also with the upgrade came a more stable Kontact, in Intrepid it seemed to crash every time I suspended/resumed.  KBluetooth doesn’t crash all the time as well.

Just wanted to say a thank you for producing another great release.

String Freeze — End of another documentation development cycle

Today is the start of string freeze and the end of the documentation cycle for Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.04, the Jaunty Jackalope.  This release cycle was sort of disappointing for me as I did not spend as much time as I wanted to on working on documentation.  At UDS Mountain View, there was a lot of things  I signed up that did not get worked on.  I was hoping to get to ufw-kde and also for the OEM Builder for both Kubuntu and Ubuntu but unfortunately did not get a chance to.

It’s amazing how much real life gets in the way of side projects.  There was a lot of stress and late nights this dev cycle spent on working on new projects and learning new things for my day job to help keep the lights on in the economy we are dealing with.  Plus having a son has stressed the amount of free time I’ve spent working on Kubuntu documentation.

In other news, I have recently sent a new revision of Chapter 7 of the Official Ubuntu book to my editor Deb at Prentince Hall, look forward to a new revision in book stores soon.  Also in Barnes and Noble there will be a special version that will include information on Netbooks and Ubuntu.

Rush Limbaugh challenges the President to a debate

While I don’t agree with the entertainer Rush on everything he says and believes, there are a lot of things that I agree with him on.  One of these is that our economy is in trouble and nothing the President is doing is helping the out with things.  In fact, Wall Street is reacting to the President’s plans by selling stock and loosing ground.

There is currently a directed effort to make Mr. Limbaugh the leader of the Republican party in a move to put the focus off of the administrations failure to turn around the economy.

Today on Rush’s program, he has challenged the President to come onto his show and debate what the President believes versus what Mr Limbaugh believes.  Rush has even offered to pay for the entire event

In fact, Mr. President, you know what, I know these are tough economic times, and you’re trying to convince people that you’re "saving" the taxpayers money, that you’re cutting spending, that you’re cutting the deficit.  In that vein, I, Mr. President, will send my jet, EIB One, to pick you up and bring you here and take you back to wherever you want to go.  You’d love it.  It’s not as big and luxurious as your jet, but it’s got enough seats for your Secret Service detail.  But it is something to behold.  I’m very proud of it, Mr. President.  I worked for it.  I paid for it.  Taxpayers pay you for your travel.  Nobody pays me for mine.  I pay for it.  I pay for the airplane.  I pay for the travel.  I pay for practically everything I do.  We can talk about that, too.  I could tell you what that’s like.
And once you land, by the way, I have a fleet of SUVs because I have guests here all the time.  I have four or five SUVs.  I can send a caravan to pick you up.  I’ll even put you up at The Breakers.  It’s a five-star resort.  I’ll do it all on my dime.  We don’t want the taxpayers footing any of the bill for this — and my jet burns a lot less fuel than your two and your C-130 to bring your limousine and SUV caravan here.  In fact, you know what, Mr. President? I’ll tell you what I will do, if you will do this. I will promise to order some Wagyu Kobe beef at $100 a pound, just like you serve at your cocktail parties and your Super Bowl parties. I’ll get it from Allen Brothers in Chicago, since you like that. I know you like $100-per-pound beef. You serve it at the White House.
But I’ll cover the cost.  I will cover the cost, Mr. President, so that the taxpayers do not have to pay for it, as they did your Super Bowl party, and as they do your Wednesday afternoon cocktail party.  So you have no excuses.

Some things that Rush would love to talk to the President about: New Deal versus Reagonomics, Guantanamo Bay, sending $900 million to Hamas, illegal immigration and ACORN.  All things they disagree with and Rush is being targeted for.

So if a private citizen challenges the President to a debate and the President doesn’t accept does this make him appear weak?

I wish the President would at least send some people to debate Rush instead of attacking him.

Watching the President Talk and Watching the Dow plummet

During lunch today our President was shown on CNN talking about the economy and profit to earning ratios.  The Dow, according to the ticker on CNN was +36 points.  As I left the coffee shop, and the President was still talking about the economy, the Dow was down to –30 points.  Coincidence?

When will the president understand Wall Street doesn’t like what he is doing to economy?
